Mind Over Matter, the presenting nonprofit organization of the Get It Dunn 5K/Half Marathon, was created by two life-long friends, Janelle Jordan and Karen Hatfield McCalla. Karen had recently lost her mother, Kathleen Fisher, to cancer. After the passing of Fisher, an annual scholarship fund was created in memory of Fisher at Menomonie High School. Janelle and Karen wanted to come up with a way to ensure that the scholarship continued to be funded through the years to help keep the spirit of Fisher alive. Soon family and friends became involved & dedicated to M.O.M. And we now have a passionate network of supporters and volunteers that fuel our mission daily, with their hearts, hands & minds. If you want to join in our efforts, please contact us!
Due to the success of the Get It Dunn Run, we have created additional outreach efforts, including a national scholarship awarded twice a year, in addition to other community giving. Check out all of our outreach efforts here!
One thing lead to another and Karen and Janelle created Mind Over Matter (M.O.M.), Inc. in 2010. M.O.M. is a non-profit organization that encourages people to reach their personal fitness goals. The M.O.M. family provides encouragement to one another to obtain their goals, whether it be running their first race, beating a personal best time or qualifying for the Boston Marathon. People of all ages and abilities utilize M.O.M. members to reach their personal wellness goals. There is no cost to be part of the M.O.M. family. In turn, when people participate in races and receive pledges M.O.M. pays it forward into the community.
Our mission: To encourage “personal wellness” and “community betterment” – enabling people to help others while helping themselves.
