Mind Over Matter, the presenting organization of the Get It Dunn 5K/Half Marathon, was created by two friends, Janelle Jordan and Karen Hatfield McCalla. Karen had recently lost her mother, Kathleen Fisher, to cancer. After the passing of Fisher, an annual scholarship fund was created in memory of Fisher at Menomonie High School. Janelle and Karen wanted to come up with a way to ensure that the scholarship continued to be funded through the years to help keep the spirit of Fisher alive.
One thing lead to another and Karen and Janelle created Mind Over Matter (M.O.M.), Inc. in 2010. M.O.M. is a non-profit organization that encourages people to reach their personal fitness goals. The M.O.M. family provides encouragement to one another to obtain their goals, whether it be running their first race, beating a personal best time or qualifying for the Boston Marathon. People of all ages and abilities utilize M.O.M. members to reach their personal wellness goals. There is no cost to be part of the M.O.M. family. In turn, when people participate in races and receive pledges M.O.M. pays it forward into the community.
Our mission: To encourage “personal wellness” and “community betterment” – enabling people to help others while helping themselves.
